Irene Dallas Solicitor 

Irene trained and qualified as a shipping lawyer in 1983 at Shaw & Croft in London where she worked on casualties and salvage cases and cargo claims. She was a partner at Herbert Smith, Shipping Department in the City of London and of Pitmans LLP in Reading. In 2002 she established Dallas & Co and continued her international dispute reolution practise. Irene has conducted commercial litigation in the High Court in London, as well as international arbitration in London, Geneva, Stockholm, Rotterdam, Dubai, Moscow and Florida. Irene’s clients are from a broad range of industries including banking, aviation, power, oil and gas, commodities and shipping. 
 
Irene was the first UK lawyer to travel to Libya with the UK Trade Mission following the suspension of UN Sanctions and developed business working for Libyan state entities, foreign companies already established in Libya and following the introduction of Law No. 5, assisting many corporates who were keen to develop business in Libya. Following the 2011 revolution Irene assisted many international businesses whose payments were blocked by US Sanctions. 
Irene has been providing corporate, commercial, litigation and aletrante dispute resolution legal services to SME's and owner managed business in the Thames Valley for in excess of 20 years.

Representative Experience 

(1)  
Arbitration in Stockholm concerning disputes arising from Production Sharing Agreements in Azerbaijan. 
(2)  
Advising an Azeri State company on; a) drafting CIF, FOB, DAF Contracts; b) Frame Contracts for long term supply of crude and products; and c) drafting Agency Agreements and various JV’s. 
(3)  
Pursuing a claim against a large US Corporate on behalf of UK client in ICC arbitration proceedings in Florida.  
In this case we applied for and successfully obtained a range of injunctions in Libya as a result of which were the defendants requested a mediation within 6 weeks of our being instructed. In this case (which was governed by Florida laws of procedure) we also conducted numerous depositions in Florida which ultimately resulted in the case settling.

Investment Treaty Dispute concerning expropriation of steel plant in Poland. 
(5)  
Broad range of cargo claims including contamination and shortage claims. Also dealt with a range of Bill Lading and Charterparty Claims. 
(6)  
Managing proceedings on behalf of Cypriot companies in Poland including dealing with Prosecution authorities in Poland and various civil claims.

Advising client in application on behalf of Trustee in bankruptcy in Tel Aviv which resulted in successful application in High Court in London for an anti-suit injunction. 
We used Counsel for the first application which involved several heavily contested hearings. We subsequently, in an adjacent matter, drafted a further application without Counsel which the Court granted without a hearing.

Defence of an application for security for costs in the High Court in London, judgment of which we are appealing.

Several multi-jurisdictional banking fraud cases in which we have had close co-operation with the prosecuting authorities in the UK and a number of other jurisdictions. 
This has resulted in many successful and multi-jurisdictional applications for injunctions and orders relating to the presentation of documents and assets.

e were recently instructed at a late stage in the defence of an action brought by our client against LAP. Unfortunately, our client having been through a number of firms did not have the resources to properly pursue this claim. 
Had he come to us earlier, we would have secured him litigation funding which would have enabled the client to pursue this claim.

Enforcement of various foreign arbitral awards and judgments from New York, Serbia, Croatia, Israel, Russia in London. 

John Finlaison Commercial Lawyer 

John qualified and practised as an attorney in South Africa for a decade in the fields of corporate, commercial and civil litigation. During such time, John gained experience in the drafting and reviewing of a wide range corporate and commercial contracts, as well as court process and legal strategy.  
 
Subsequent to leaving private practise, John joined a leading independent fuel wholesaler as group legal advisor, in which role he provided advice to the board and senior management on a wide range of legal matters, including M&A, commercial transactions and contracts, employment law, intellectual property, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance.  
 
John progressed within such organisiation and was appointed general manager of the fuel division within South Africa.  
 
John joined Dallas & Co as a commercial lawyer in 2023.

Nivi graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2020 and commenced her training contract with Dallas & Co in 2023, after working as a litigation paralegal for over a year at another boutique litigation law firm.  
 
She manages her cases independently and has experience dealing with construction disputes, commercial debt recovery, intellectual property disputes, complex company disputes, and other commercial disputes.
